A Moment of Silence
On April 25th, 2015 (Baisakh 12, 2072) my country Nepal was struck by an Earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8. Having casualties of over 15000 among which 8000 deaths. This Earthquake was named Gorkha Earthquake since, the epicenter was the east of Lamjung District at Barpak, Gorkha, Nepal. This quake was the worst natural disaster to strike my country since the 1934 earthquake .
Today Sunday i.e April 24th, 2016 (Baisakh 12, 2073) it will be a year since the quake shook Nepal. Nepal being a culture rich and filled with superstitious beliefs people here have began to wonder and spread the fact that this day will be a scary and hard day. It was scary day to be remembered since, it shocked the whole nation.
The earthquake triggered an Avalanche in Mount Everest and killed more than 20 and hundreds missing. This is a day in the mountaineer history. Similarly, the earthquake made thousands of people homeless, and shattered across Nepal. Just when everything was starting to feel calm a big shock took place again on 12th of May 2015 which again brought fear into people. According to the USGS, the earthquake was caused by a sudden thrust, or release of built-up stress, along the major fault line where the Indian Plate, carrying India, is slowly diving underneath the Eurasian Plate, carrying much of Europe and Asia. Kathmandu, situated on a block of crust approximately 120 km (74 miles) wide and 60 km (37 miles) long, reportedly shifted 3 m (10 ft) to the south in a matter of just 30 seconds.
We did not ask for this nor any one in the world asks for such. The nature keeps track and balances itself. This is a fact that cannot be avoided yet.
So, one moment of silence and prayers for those my brothers and sisters who lost their lives on the massive quake that hit Nepal.
